- In 2022, I visited Sierra Leone to meet my nation (Themne) for the first time since the slave trade in 1619. Freetown was founded by formerly enslaved people. The countryside and the beaches are breathtaking. You will notice that mangos are EVERYWHERE!!! Little kids climb trees in the morning to collect mangos for their families to sell at the markets. I miss Sierra Leone, especially the abundance of mangos and palm wines. I've finally found a scent that reminds me of Mama Leone <3.
